Coed y Brenin
Coed y Brenin and the Red Bull trail is where it all started. I first went there in 1996 on a Trek VRX and decided it was the best place on the planet. All these years later and it still doesn’t dissapoint. There are graded trails from green to black and a skills section, which when we visited in April 2017 was an easy way to spend half a day. The various trails snake off into the mountains and contain some of the best views in Wales.
The Minotaur – Blue, suitable for everyone
Temtiwr – Red, more advanced rider with good offroad skills
Dragon’s Back – Red, more advanced rider with good offroad skills
Cyflym Coch – Red, more advanced rider with good offroad skills
MBR – Black, adavanced riders
Tarw – Black, advanced riders
Beast – Black, advanced riders
The video above was taken on the Red graded Cyflym Coch trail, it’s the Dreamtime section. It was shot on a GoPro hero session 5. It’s a lovely fast flowing section of single track, a must ride before you die
Chicksands Bike Park
So what to say about Chicksands?…Well only that its awesome!
Its a different kind of a trail centre. Its a collection of relatively short runs with a 4x track which hosts a round of the British 4x championship. There is a dual slalom track a mini downhill run, a bomb hole a couple of black runs and a graded series of jumps from smaller table tops to insane doubles. It costs £5 to ride all day but is so worth it. Two points worth mentioning, even when busy it doesn’t seem full or crowded and you are never more than 5 mins away from the car park should something break. Catering is taken of by a Thai van which does everything from noodles to bacon rolls and is quite cheap.
